Stages of Life (What Women Should Know):
Throughout adulthood women experience many stages of life which play a key role in their sexual health and intimacy. From budding young women to the wisdom of maturity, women experience changes in our bodies that affect their physical and emotional well-being which, in turn, affects our sex drive.
Menstrual Cycle:
The menstrual cycle is a very complex 28 day cycle in which the female body experiences creating all sorts of changes throughout the month including physical, hormonal and emotional. Day 1 is when bleeding starts and the hormones estrogen and progesterone are not very high. Estrogen levels mount and peak at Day 14 when ovulation occurs, give or take 2 days during which time women may experience a feeling of wetness or lubrication. During other times of the month a woman may not feel this same sensation leaving her less wet or lubricated. Using additional lubrication during these times can be helpful. Some women may experience premenstrual syndrome (PMS) during their menstrual cycle. PMS may occur anytime two weeks preceding your period. This may include anxiety, mood swing, vaginal itching, weight gain, irritability to name a few. All of which could affect your sexual drive.
Birth Control:
Birth control is important, but it may decrease your sex drive. There are many types of birth control on the market. Ask your doctor to help you find the birth control that is best for you.
Child Birth/Postpartum:
After you experience child birth you may go through a period of time that you are not interested in sex. Your husband is also affected by childbirth and you may find that he has a decrease in sex drive too. This is temporary, so be patient with each other, communicate and work together as a team to insure you are both able to enjoy each other sexually. Again, if you find it lasting for a long period of time consult your doctor.
Menopause:
At menopause, a woman’s body stops producing estrogen and a common complaint is vaginal dryness. In addition, the vaginal tissue becomes thinner and less elastic, making sex less pleasurable. The use of a personal lubricant at this point in life is very important to help increase lubrication during intercourse.
Sexual Dysfunction (Symptoms & Solutions):
Many women experience loss sex drive at various times in their lives. This lack of interest in sex may be the result of various life situations from stress and depression to FSD (Female Sexual Dysfunction). There are many ways to rejuvenate your interest in intimacy through self exploration and your body image to over the counter medications and doctor prescribed treatments such as hormone replacement.
Stress:
Life brings us much stress, and as we mature we gain more responsibility and along with the responsibility we inevitably increase our stress. Stress can affect us emotionally, physically, and it can be our worst enemy in the bedroom! You want to make sex your stress reliever! It is a great way to relax, unwind and exercise. These are all ways to relieve stress. Take advantage of what sex has to offer!
Self Image:
As we move through life our bodies change. As you we are very driven by our external looks and want to always be in the best physical shape possible. As we mature, our bodies change. No need to work hard to stay fit and spend much more time keeping up our appearances.
Couples (Sex is a Team Sport):
Let’s face it, intercourse is a team sport. Most men have played team sports some time in their lives. They know how to call out plays, intercept when necessary and score! Women, on the other hand, may not have had the same opportunities to learn these skills therefore, they need to teach themselves. If you want to have great sex, you need to be a team player!
Play:
Men are good at asking for what they want. Women may not always take this initiative. Unfortunately, it can get very frustrating to satisfy someone via mental telepathy! Tell him what you need so he can make it happen.
Interception:
Maybe you don’t know what you need or want. If it is not feeling right, step in and help out. Try different techniques and help out until you come up with one or more that works for you. You will both be happier if you are both being satisfied.
Score:
Scoring is the most important part of the game for men. Work together to make sure you are both scoring in every game or you may start to feel neglected. If scoring is not your number one goal, ask for what you want and then give him what you know he wants.
